1^st Generation

Elisha Owens died in 1817 in VA. He married Amey.

2^nd Generation

Robert Owens was born about 1793 in VA and died after 1870, probably in TN. He was married May 5, 1825 in Edgecombe Co., NC. to Elizabeth L. Thorne who was born about 1794 in NC and died after 1850, probably in TN. Giles County Historical Society Bulletin, page 36, April 26, 1987: Robert and Elizabeth Owens moved to Giles Co., TN ca. 1830. Robert was very likely the son of Elisha and Amy Owens of Edgecombe Co. NC. There is a Robert Owens listed on the census in 1820 and 1830 who matches his age, and he is listed as a son in the will of Elisha Owens. It should be pointed out that he is the only Robert Owens that shows up on the census in NC during that time. Further research needs to be done to fully develop this claim.

NANCY OWENS, b. ABT 1824.

Bynum Owens was born about 1826 in NC and died after December 1861 in TN. He was married about 1844 to Paulina Gourd who was born about 1830. Source: Giles County Historical Society Bulletin, page 36, April 26, 1987 for his parents and children. He shows up on the 1860 Lawrence Co., TN Census when he was age 34. Bynum served in the 53rd Tennessee Infantry. The 53rd Tennessee had been almost decimated by measles and had less than 300 men fit for duty when they became part of the original garrison of Fort Donelson in January, 1862. Bynum was among those who had died. Children

George W. Owens was born about 1859 in TN and died between 1885 and 1900 in TN. He was married August 29, 1878 in Giles Co., TN to Lucretia Ann Dickey who was born about 1862 in Giles Co., TN and died between 1885 and 1900 in TN. Children

Bertha Beatrice Owens was born October 26, 1885 in Giles Co., TN and died January 1, 1962 in Tanner, Limestone Co., AL. She married Brown Cirby Adams who was born October 17, 1883 in TN and died September 26, 1952 in Fayetteville, Lincoln Co., TN. Bertha appears on the 1900 TN. census in Giles Co. She was enumerated with John Hargrove and his wife. It lists her birth date as Oct. 1886 (age 13) and says that she is an orphan.

She was married in Giles Co. TN. Her marriage record has her last name as Owings. Alabama death certificate #1307 gives birth date, birthplace, date of death and parents. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage caused by hypertension and arteriosclerosis. She was buried Jan.2, 1962 in Mitchell Cemetery, Lauderdale Co. AL. Her doctor was J. Wiley of Decatur Al. and the funeral home was Toney Rainey and Son of Ardmore TN. Her address was Rt. 1, Tanner AL at the time of her death. Her death was reported by Reba Morgan of Tanner.
